A role in Mergepoint is a label that describes your position or job title in the organisation. It appears on your team member profile and in member lists across the workspace.
Every member has exactly one role. You can see and change it in Settings > Team Members by selecting a member and updating their role.
Common examples of roles used by teams on Mergepoint:
These are fully customisable. You can create any role labels that match your organisation's structure in Settings > Roles.
This is the most important thing to understand: a role is not a permission level. Changing someone's role from "Viewer" to "Manager" does nothing to what they can see or do in the product — those controls live entirely in permission sets.
Two members with the exact same role can have completely different levels of access, and two members with different roles can have identical access, depending on which permission sets they are in.

If you want to control what someone can access, see Permission Sets: Controlling What Members Can Access.
